finial review

My book The redhead Plays her Hand was a interesting novel. Interesting in a way that isn't at all intellectually stimulating. It was hard to find the actual plot. It seemed to be hidden with meaningless conversations and very predictable actions for the characters. They diction was average which made it an easy read. There was some interesting syntax in the way it was set up. But other then that nothing really grabbed my attention. It was a quick cheesy read.
The ending was very predictable. After Gracie kicked Jack out he cleaned up his act. He started to stop drinking and using drugs. Gracie being heart broken and lonely takes him back after he has proven that he is sober. The paparazzi has slowed down and they came out publicly with their relationship. Gracie is becoming a big star and Jack is becoming an even bigger one. All and all they live happily ever after. Super predictable and not all cheesy.
At first I thought that this book was going to be about changing the Hollywood stereo type but I think it just added to it. The glamor of the spot light and the pressure to be what they want you to be is all there it didn't change a lot of my thinking on the Hollywood life style. Jack is a heavy drinker like lots of other real hollywood stars. Gracie isn't a good girl either she drinks as well. They went to clubs almost every night. Gracie continued to starve herself for this role. We all know that this happens but we don't do anything to change it. They are in the spotlight all the time and that kind of pressure and stress. To relieve the stress of the job they go and party. This is a problem that we need to fix in our society and it starts with writing good well written books that actually dress this problem. I don't believe that this book did anything but help enforce these stereo types.
If I could rewrite this book I would change the plot almost completely to have it not support theHollywood image but actually make its readers believe other wise.  I would have the characters have more development. I would add a more complicated and less predictable ending. Over all I would not highly recommend this book. B-

so far and almost to the end

I've been reading this book for a bit now I'm almost done with it. So far I have not been impressed with the writes craft or most of the syntax but its a somewhat interesting. Last time I wrote about the actual story was when Gracie was first told she had to lose the weight. And jack was starting to party every night with Adam. Now things have gotten better in some parts and worse in others.
Lets start with Gracie. She is starting to gain a fanbase that supports her weight lose struggle. Some support he cause and others support her curves. With this comes more paparazzi attention then she would like. Being still very new to life in hollywood she's not exactly prepared for the way the paparazzi treated her. Its making her rethink her decisions to be here but her relationship with jack helps her see that she needs to say.
Moving onto jack. He's going out with Adam most nights staying up late drinking and now more recently doing drugs. He is slowly losing his "good boy" reputation. He hasn't told Gracie yet but she is worrying more and more about him. Holly his manager is worried about him too. She knows about Adam's reputation and doesn't think that its a good idea for Jack to associate with him other then to work on this movie. He's starting to lessen his guard down with the paparazzi attention towards him and Gracie which is going to add to some bad news for them.
This poses some questions to my mind. Does this really happen to Hollywood stars? Are the paparazzi really that rude and intrusive? Why are stars using drugs when their lives are so good?

unique set up

This book is set up in an interesting way. The author has decided to write it in first person perspective. I believe that this was a great choice in helping the author understand what the chapters are feeling and how they interact. The author has put internal dialogue into the conversations which shows you exactly how the character is thinking.
It helps you understand the stress Gracie is under taking and how the way we perceive the Hollywood life is wrong. In this quote its Gracie thinking about living in Iowa and leaving the Hollywood life.
"...I could grow my own salads and put up jars of jam and beans for us to survive the hard, lean winter? Okay, your not Laura Ingalls..."
The italicized words is her angel on her shoulder. It helps you see that she is not serious in what she's actually saying. Its also used for humor purposes. It adds a light hearted sense to the conversation. I was also able to relate to her when she does this. Sometimes when I'm thinking I have a voice for my voice in my head.
The author also at the beginning of most chapters starts it off with a fake news article about the characters. This i think is very unique to the book. It helps the reader understand what happened the chapter before was about and gives a nice summary. I am stating to think that the paparazzi is the antagonist. The articles at the beginning of the chapters are the paparazzi's dialogue and their contribution to the story.

Getting deeper into this

Gracie has started taking her role seriously. She is starting to see results but its not enough for the directors to be happy. She's been working out and practically starving her self for a while now and its still not enough. This is a problem is society now. Women and girls are starving themselves because hey don't think they are good enough. Hollywood puts unrealistic standards on their actresses and actors and then in return they pressure ordinary people. I think to have girls and guys to have a better body image and self esteem that we should lower Hollywoods standards. Which is far fetched but it would make children and teens have more confidence and self esteem.
Back to the book a new character has been put into play. Adam Kasen. He is one of Jacks co-stars in this new movie. He is hollywoods Bad boy and like I said in my last post Jack has a good boy reputation. Now they are living the night life together and going out all night to party and get wasted. Jack used to drink occasionally but now he is getting past out on the couch wasted each night. Adam is not nice either. Gracie is in denial about what jack is doing. She doesn't yet see the severity of the problem at hand.
Adam and Jack being closely associated with as Hollywoods newest bromance is trouble to Gracie's and Jacks secret relationship. I think that Jack is gonna get into some bad things with either the paparazzi or the law and Adam isn't gonna be any help. Instead Adam is gonna be the cause. And thats not going to be good for Gracie as well as not good for Jack.

WOW.... intresting

I've been reading this book for a little while now. I'm on chapter 6. Over all I'm not too pleased. I like the characters. I like some of the interactions between characters. But the only word that I can think to describe it is... naughty fanfiction.
The characters  are interesting. I like holly Gracie's best friend and manager. They have a very good best friend relationship. I like the parts when they are together the most. With Jack her boyfriend i don't really like her interactions that much. They can be a bit explicate. Not anything too bad but to a point where you make a face while reading it.
I haven't been able to really see the plot so far. Its mostly cuddling and drinking. which is most peoples version of Hollywood. I was kinda hoping that they would set out to change that. The biggest conflict at this point is Gracie needs to lose 15 pounds for her show. She is starting to starve her self and workout too much. Jack is off working a movie and is hanging out more and more with the Hollywood bad boy Adam which wont be good for his good british boy reputation that he has now.

the redhead plays her hand

The book I choose to read is called The Redhead Plays Her Hand. From the prompt to read it I can predict that this book will have a powerful plot that leads the reader to think about the Hollywood life differently. It's about a new actress named Gracie who is staring in a new  TV show that is going to launch her career skyward. She is romantically involved with Hollywood new it man who name is jack. With both their careers launching off its becoming harder and harder to keep out the the public's eye.
I choose this book because I am a red head and I can relate to her on this point. As for the Hollywood actress life I'm not sure I can relate to her on that. All together I am very intrigued and a bit excited to read this book. I've been wanting to read it for a while and I hope its good
